Colorado Premium Assistance (CPA) for 2027 helps eligible households lower their monthly health insurance premiums through Connect for Health Colorado. It can be added to federal advance premium tax credits for qualifying marketplace coverage.

How much is Colorado Premium Assistance in 2027?

$70 per month for the first eligible household member.

$25 per month for each additional eligible household member.

What are the 2027 income limits?

CPA requires eligibility for premium tax credits and household income no higher than 400% of the federal poverty level. For 2027 coverage, that is $63,840 a year for one person or $132,000 for a family of four. Income alone does not establish eligibility. Source: Boulder County’s 2027 enrollment guidance.

What is a federal premium tax credit?

A premium tax credit lowers your monthly health insurance premium. If you take it in advance, the credit goes directly to your insurance carrier and reduces your bill. You can also claim an eligible credit when you file your federal tax return.

Household income generally must be between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level, but income is only one part of eligibility. Your tax household, filing status, immigration eligibility and access to other coverage also matter. An offer of affordable employer coverage or eligibility for Medicare or Medicaid can affect whether you qualify. See the IRS premium tax credit overview.

Did the federal help go away?

The enhanced federal credits expired after 2025. Standard premium tax credits continue for 2027, but the larger pandemic-era amounts are no longer available. That means a fresh review of your income, coverage options and state assistance is especially worthwhile.

What is Colorado Premium Assistance?

Colorado Premium Assistance is state-funded help that can lower premiums in addition to federal assistance for eligible customers. Colorado extended the program through plan year 2027. Connect for Health Colorado reports that it helped more than 176,000 customers lower their premiums in 2026.

The Colorado Division of Insurance estimates that financially assisted customers will see an average net premium increase of about $20 a month from 2026 to 2027, compared with $69 without the state assistance. These are statewide estimates, not a promise about your individual premium. Your cost depends on your household and plan. Read the Division of Insurance’s 2027 premium announcement.

Do I have to use Connect for Health Colorado to get help?

Yes. Federal premium tax credits and Colorado Premium Assistance require eligible marketplace coverage through Connect for Health Colorado. A plan purchased directly from a carrier outside the marketplace does not qualify for these subsidies. Not every plan displayed in a shopping tool qualifies for financial help, so confirm the enrollment route before choosing coverage.

Our team can help you compare options and complete the application for assistance. The marketplace determines eligibility. Learn about financial help through Connect for Health Colorado.

What about deductibles and copays?

Premium assistance lowers your monthly bill. Cost-sharing reductions can also lower deductibles, copays and out-of-pocket limits for eligible lower-income households enrolled in a Silver marketplace plan.

Colorado Option plans include certain $0 primary care and mental health visits. Check the specific plan’s benefits and network requirements. The right plan depends on your doctors, prescriptions, income and expected care, so compare total costs rather than premiums alone.

How do I find out what I qualify for?

Start with your best estimate of 2027 tax-household income. Bring household details, information about any employer coverage offer, and your doctors and prescriptions to your review. We will help you compare carriers, plan levels and networks before you enroll.

Report income and household changes during the year. Advance federal credits are reconciled on your tax return. Starting with tax year 2026, repayment caps no longer apply to excess advance credits, so an inaccurate estimate can lead to a tax bill. Ask a tax professional about your situation. Read the IRS repayment update.
